For This Child, I Prayed

For this child, I prayed.

For this child, she prayed.

God is faithful to his promises.

Generational blessings of life are ours.

As I prepare to become a grandmother, I find myself reflecting on the goodness and faithfulness of God.

The creator of life has granted both me and my daughter with the gift of motherhood when, from the world’s perspective, it appeared to be impossible. As we prayed, the Lord of all creation interceded on our behalf and the Father heard our prayers. He heard our hearts’ desires and he answered with all his love, power, and glory. He spoke and new life was created, in wombs that had been absent and barren.

His promise of motherhood matched our desire for motherhood. He supernaturally intervened and our physiological impossibilities were overcome by his word. What was impossible to us was indeed possible with God. For with God, all things are possible! To him belong all power, glory, and praise.

The scriptures tell us that we are to walk by faith and not by sight. Both of us have had to walk that walk and trust God at his word. For faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. In the case of my daughter, she hoped for a child while the evidence was not seen. She was born without a uterus, which was diagnosed at the age of 12. How does one hope for a child with no way to carry one? Faith!

We made our desires known and prayed in faith for what was not seen. We also submitted our wills to God’s will, knowing and understanding he has a plan for all of us. We did not know what would happen, but we stood in faith accepting whatever God decided. When God answered our prayers, he gave us an amazing promise. You see, God answered those prayers on Mother’s Day one year later. A year after her original diagnosis, the emergency room staff, and physician were in awe of what they found upon examination – a uterus! The Mother’s Day gift and the promise was that she would be able to bear children.

We have held on to God’s Mother’s Day promise for 16 years. During that time, my daughter has endured the naysayers and physical odds, but God continues to show himself faithful and true. I’m overjoyed to say that my daughter will be having her first child, a son, in October of this year!

In this moment, I’m rejoicing in the promise of being a grandmother. I will be forever grateful for the new life that has been created and I will continue to hold on to the promise of generational blessings of children yet to come.
